Book Launch for Danielle Mohr's "Drift"

Lucas Mohr was born in 2014 and has PKU. His aunt, Danielle Mohr, dedicated her book "Drift" to Lucas and chose to donate a portion of book sales to CanPKU+ in his honour.

We were very honoured to be considered for this donation. The book officially launched, and supporters could learn more through Danielle Mohr's website.

Readers did not need a Kindle device to access the book. The Kindle app was available for free with an Amazon account.

Purchases made through the book link may have generated support for CanPKU+.

PKU Poker Run

In September 2014, Chris and Angel Krauskopf welcomed their daughter, Delilah, into the world. At five days old, Delilah was diagnosed with PKU.

In celebration of Delilah's first birthday, her parents and grandmother, Deb Brown, Finance Coordinator with Hamilton Health Sciences, created the PKU Fund. The PKU Fund supported patient amenities such as group celebrations, cooking demonstrations, and resource materials.

In 2016, the passion continued with Delilah's grandfather, Gene Edwards. Gene is a member of the IRONHAWKS motorcycle club. The club organized a ride to celebrate PKU patients, families, and friends. The first run that July donated $2,000 to the PKU Fund at McMaster Children's Hospital.

In 2017, the family expanded their reach and included CanPKU+ in their fundraising efforts. A donation of $1,000 was given to Camp MagniPHEque, and an additional gift was made to the PKU Fund.

"At the beginning of the ride, as the bikers cruise by, they greet us all with smiles, waves and honking horns as they continue their journey. That very moment is one that will never be forgotten and we look forward to next year's event."

2014 Avery's Ride for PKU

PKU uncle Kevin Dube cycled across Canada in 71 days during the summer of 2014 to raise awareness in honour of his niece, Avery. He travelled through all weather and terrain, visiting every provincial capital and the 16 cities with a PKU-treating clinic.

The project generated dozens of media opportunities and raised more than $50,000 for CanPKU+.

2016 Peter Wardell's Boston Marathon

Determined to fulfill his lifelong goal of running a marathon while raising funds for causes close to his heart, Peter Wardell raised an incredible $3,858 for CanPKU+ in May 2016.

Peter shared that CanPKU+ had been amazing in educating, advocating, and helping his family feel welcomed in the PKU community after learning that his daughter Luka had PKU.

He qualified for the 2016 Boston Marathon during his first marathon in Edmonton in August 2015 with a time of 3:07:06. After four months of training five days a week and reaching up to 95 km per week, he completed the Boston Marathon in 3:02:36.

His campaign raised awareness for PKU and reflected the power of personal goals paired with community advocacy.

Paint Night

This fundraiser was held in Sparwood, BC and included light refreshments. Tickets were $45 each, with $25 from every ticket donated to CanPKU+.

Rosie P. chose the image to be painted for the evening.

This was a uniquely creative fundraiser that allowed Rosie's mom, Nicole, to enjoy the evening while others ran the event after registration was complete. Thank you to Rosie, Nicole, and all attendees for their support.

PKU Walkathon Kamloops

May is PKU Awareness Month. PKU adult Amanda C., along with Brianne, a friend and PKU mom, planned these walkathons for several years. Joined by local families in Kamloops, they walked Riverside Park and held a large silent auction to raise money for CanPKU+. We are grateful for their annual dedication and support.

Artetvino Fundraiser for CanPKU+

This event offered an inspiring, stress-free guided painting session while supporting CanPKU+ at the same time. A professional art therapist led the session, and all materials were provided.

Held in Quebec, admission was $35 per person, and Artetvino donated $10 from each registration to Canadian PKU & Allied Disorders Inc. Space was limited to 40 participants.

Other Fundraising Ideas

Over the years, we have seen many different kinds of fundraisers, from penny drives and Pampered Chef parties to haircut-a-thons and polo matches.

Be creative, and let us know if you are hosting an event with proceeds going to CanPKU+ so we can help share the details.

Schools, sports teams, co-workers, families, and classmates can all play a role in raising awareness and supporting our education, events, and advocacy efforts.
