In 2011, CanPKU+ created and distributed our first round of PKU Starter Kits. Aimed at alleviating some of the stress for parents of diagnosed newborns and adults returning to diet, the kits are provided free of charge to PKU clinics across Canada and distributed to patients free of charge. These kits often include such items as cooler bags, scales, measuring tools, ice packs, shaker cups, and may also contain a formula funnel. The contents are not always the same as we rely on our sponsors to help include items to the kit and this can vary from year to year. This project has continued, approximately every other year we reassemble kits and share them across the country. The needs of this program is determined by the amount of new diagnosed or adults restarting their therapy. Our sponsors actively contribute items to the kit. Shipping to clinics is made possible by the Specialty Food Shop for covering the cost. If you would like to help with this project, or if you are a clinic requiring more kits, please email us at info@canpku.org. These kits are not available directly from CanPKU+ as we greatly value the relationship you need to have with your Clinic. |

| We thank the Metabolic Health Care clinics across the Nation for helping us in identifying some patients that needed devices (chromebooks) in order to access their PKU Care. This was possible because of a pandemic response program and we acknowledge and thank both the Canadian Red Cross and Government of Canada for financial support via an approved grant for this possibility. We know that staying connected during COVID-19 restrictions can be tough. We hope these devices will provide a way for you to better connect with both your clinic and your social support network and maintain your PKU treatment plan for best overall health. |
